WØLFFE SHOOT YOU DOWN

It'd be cold of us to put the relative online success of South London newcomer Wølffe this week purely down to her relationship with Rocket Music, but when Elton John is your manager's boss - see Ed Sheeran - there's gonna be a bit of clout behind you from the off. Anyway, that's the last we'll say of Elt, because there's as much gravitas oozing out of 'Shoot You Down', her debut single proper, as there is going on behind the scenes. There's a definite air of BANKS in her temptress urges - 'Get up, get up out of the water' - and throbbing 808s, but Wølffe seems capable of cutting ties to her LA counterpart with her impassioned - near-cracking - delivery at the death. All in all, a classy first glimpse of her original material. Oh, and she also does a mean cover of Drake's sexed-up slow jam 'Hold On, We're Going Home', if you're inclined to listen. - DC
